A finished walk-in shower, start to end

Linear drain along the wall, floating bench, hexagon mosaic niche and marble-look porcelain matched across the joints. Fourteen seconds, no staging — this is how the rooms look on the day we hand them back.

What goes into a shower that does not leak

Tile is not waterproof. Grout is not waterproof. What keeps water out of your walls is everything behind them — and that is where corners get cut, because nobody sees it once the tile is up.

Back to the studs

Old tile, board and tub come out so we can see the framing, the drain and the valve — and fix what is wrong before it is covered.

Slope to the drain

A centre drain with a four-way fall or a linear drain along the wall, set so water leaves the floor instead of sitting in the grout.

Membrane system

Full Kerdi / Schluter membrane on the walls and floor, every seam and corner banded. Not a painted coat over drywall.

Flood test

Where the design calls for it, the pan is filled and left before tile goes on. If it holds, we tile. If not, we fix it now.

Niche & bench

Recessed niches planned so the cuts land cleanly, and floating or built-in benches waterproofed as part of the same system.

Glass & finish

Glass measured off the finished tile, silicone at every change of plane, and the room cleaned before you get it back.

What a walk-in shower costs in Victoria

Labour for the whole room, in Canadian dollars, before GST: demolition, plumber, electrician and fan, waterproofing, tile, drywall, paint and baseboards. Tile, vanity, toilet, fixtures, glass and other materials are bought by you — most clients choose their own tile. One firm written price after we measure.

Per square foot, the membrane labour alone is from $2.50, with the material bought separately. See the line-by-line budget or the full rate card.

Tub-to-shower conversions

Swapping a tub you never use for a walk-in shower is the single most common change we make to a bathroom. The tub comes out, the drain moves to suit the shower and the valve is re-set at the right height. A linear drain lets the floor run as one plane of tile, which reads bigger in a small Victoria bathroom.

If you are planning to stay in the home, think about the next twenty years now: a low or curbless entry, a bench, a hand shower on a slide bar, and blocking in the walls for grab bars later costs very little during the build and a great deal afterwards.

“They installed the bathroom tiles and the flooring in my home, and they did an excellent job. They were always very kind, professional, and willing to help. They finished the work on time and paid attention to every detail.”

Victoria Rameix · Google review

★★★★★

“We recently had a serious tile issue in our basement — a leak that our original tiling contractor completely abandoned. Novo Tile, and specifically Vova, gave us real confidence — he clearly understood the scope of work needed and quoted us a very fair rate. Not only did he seal everything back up properly, but he also regraded the tile so it drains better than it ever did before.”

Questions

Walk-in shower FAQ — Victoria, BC

How much does a walk-in shower cost in Victoria, BC?

Our labour for a full bathroom with a walk-in shower starts from $7,000, before GST — demolition, plumber, electrician and fan, waterproofing, tile, drywall, paint and baseboards. Tile, vanity, toilet, fixtures, glass and other materials are bought by you. Replacing only the shower? Send us photos and we will quote it per project.

Can I have a curbless shower in my house?

Often, yes — but it depends on the floor. A true curbless entry means recessing the shower floor or building up the rest of the room so water still runs to the drain. On a wood-framed floor that can mean working with the joists; on a slab it can mean cutting concrete. We check this at the free on-site measure and tell you plainly whether curbless, a low curb or a linear drain at the entry is the right call.

Can you convert my bathtub into a walk-in shower?

Yes, it is one of the most common jobs we do. The tub comes out, the drain and valve are moved to suit the shower, the walls go back to the studs and the whole wet area is waterproofed with a membrane system before any tile goes on. If you are planning to stay in the home for the long term, a low or curbless entry and a bench are worth considering now.

How do you make sure the shower will not leak?

Full Kerdi and Schluter membrane systems on the walls and floor, the floor sloped properly to the drain, and a flood test where the design calls for it — before a single tile is set. We photograph every stage, including the parts that get covered up, so you can see what is behind your tile.

How long does a walk-in shower take?

Typically seven to twelve working days for a full bathroom with a walk-in shower, niche, bench and linear drain, from demolition to grout. You get the schedule in writing before we start.

Do you install the shower glass?

We coordinate it. Glass is measured once the tile is finished, so it fits the real walls rather than the drawings — the glass itself is bought separately from a local glass company, which also installs it, and we line up the timing.
