Add the lines up and a walk-in shower bathroom starts from $7,000 in labour. A bigger room, moved plumbing, large-format tile or an older house pushes it up — we price your room after a free measure. Waterproofing and ventilation are the two things that fail expensively later, so they are the wrong place to save.

What pushes the price up in Victoria

Moving the plumbing

Keeping the toilet, sink and drain where they are is the biggest saving there is. Moving or adding fixtures means opening the floor — and, in the City of Victoria, a plumbing permit. Permits explained.

An older house

Pre-1960 homes often hide cast-iron drains, soft subfloors and walls that are out of plumb. Homes built before 1990 should have a hazardous-materials test before demolition.

Rot under the tub

Decades of small leaks around a tub or toilet flange show up as soft subfloor once the old fixtures are out. We look for it at the estimate.

Tile format and layout

Straight-laid porcelain goes in quickly. Large-format slabs, stone, mosaic and herringbone take far longer to plan, cut and set.

Walk-in instead of a tub

A shower pan, membrane on every wet surface, a niche, a bench and glass — labour from $7,000, against $5,700 with a tub surround.

Heated floor and upgrades

An electric heated floor is quoted per room and adds a day or two. Heated floors.

How long it takes

From demolition to grout, a bathroom with a tub surround typically takes four to seven working days and a walk-in shower bathroom seven to twelve. Glass is measured once the tile is finished, so allow time for it to be made. You get the schedule in writing before we start.

Three typical scopes

Refresh a main bathroom

Tub stays, walls around it back to the studs, new membrane and tile, new vanity, toilet and fan, plumbing in place. Our labour from $5,700.

Tub out, walk-in shower in

The most common Victoria job: tub removed, curbed or curbless shower with niche and bench, linear drain, glass. Our labour from $7,000.

Full ensuite

Separate tub and shower, double vanity, large-format tile, often a heated floor or relocated plumbing. Our labour from $10,400.

Questions

Bathroom cost FAQ — Victoria, BC

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Victoria, BC in 2026?

Our labour for a full bathroom renovation starts from $5,700 with a tiled tub surround and from $7,000 with a walk-in shower, before GST — every trade included, materials bought by you. Large ensuites with a separate tub and shower start from $10,400.

Is it cheaper to keep the bathtub?

Usually, yes. A tub surround needs less waterproofing, no shower pan and no glass, which is why our labour starts from $5,700 instead of $7,000 for a walk-in shower bathroom. Keeping every fixture where it is saves the most of all.

Do your prices include GST and materials?

Our bathroom prices cover all the labour — the plumber and electrician included — but not materials, fixtures or GST. Our per-square-foot rates on the rate card are labour only.

How much should I keep aside for surprises?

Keep 10–15% aside, and closer to 20% in a house built before 1960. If we open a wall and find rot or old plumbing, we stop, show you photos and price it before we carry on.

Can I supply my own tile?

Yes. You can supply your own tile and fixtures or we can source them. We count the tile off the 3D model so you order the right amount.
